BAYFLEX Partials: Which BAYFLEX Option to Prescribe for Each Case

The quick answer: BAYFLEX is the flexible partial denture system from Bayshore Dental Studio, and it comes in four options. Prescribe BAYFLEX Basic for most partially edentulous cases with good tooth support, BAYFLEX Hybrid when the patient is missing all posterior teeth and needs more support, BAYFLEX Single Tooth for interim and implant healing cases, and BAYFLEX Clearframe when you want a clear, metal free frame that is nearly invisible. Every BAYFLEX partial can be rebased, repaired, and have teeth or clasps added in the lab, so the appliance can change with the patient instead of being remade.

What is BAYFLEX?

BAYFLEX is a serviceable flexible partial denture system made by Bayshore Dental Studio. BAYFLEX partials are fabricated from a monomer free, BPA free, hypoallergenic nylon thermoplastic that is highly stain resistant and uses tissue-colored flexible clasps instead of visible metal clasps. What sets BAYFLEX apart is serviceability: the lab can rebase it as tissue changes, repair damaged areas, and add prosthetic teeth or flexible clasps if the patient loses another tooth. BAYFLEX is recommended by 93 percent of clinicians surveyed in a Clinicians Report evaluation.

The four BAYFLEX options at a glance
BAYFLEX option Best for What makes it different
BAYFLEX Basic Most partially edentulous cases with good tooth support Lightweight nylon base with flexible clasps that blend with teeth and tissue
BAYFLEX Hybrid Patients missing all posterior teeth with no molar available for clasping Metal framework for support, with flexible clasps in the esthetic zone
BAYFLEX Single Tooth Interim restorations and implant healing appliances Injection molded for precise, seamless tissue adaptation
BAYFLEX Clearframe Cases where minimizing visibility is the priority Clear, semi-rigid, metal free frame with near complete transparency
BAYFLEX Basic: the everyday flexible partial

BAYFLEX Basic is the starting point for most cases. It is a lightweight, durable, comfortable flexible partial with strategically positioned flexible clasps that blend with adjacent teeth and surrounding tissue. Choose Basic when there is good tooth support for retention and the patient wants an esthetic, metal free partial that feels lighter than a conventional acrylic or cast metal design.

BAYFLEX Hybrid: when the case needs more support

Some cases need more rigidity than an all-flexible design can provide. BAYFLEX Hybrid combines a metal framework with BAYFLEX flexible material, which adds stability for patients missing all posterior teeth with no molar available for clasping. Flexible clasps are used in the esthetic zone, so the patient gets the support of metal without metal clasps showing when they smile.

BAYFLEX Single Tooth: interim and implant healing cases

BAYFLEX Single Tooth is designed for transitional treatment. It works well as an interim restoration or as an implant healing appliance while the site integrates. The injection molding process gives a precise, seamless adaptation to the surrounding tissue, which supports comfort and esthetics during the healing phase.

BAYFLEX Clearframe: a clear, metal free frame

BAYFLEX Clearframe is a metal free upgrade to traditional acrylic and metal removable appliances. It combines the strength of advanced nylon with the simplicity of an acrylic-style design, and the clear shade allows designs with near complete transparency. Clearframe is lightweight, stain resistant, monomer free, and well suited for patients with monomer sensitivities, making it a strong option when keeping the appliance out of sight is the clinical priority.

How to prescribe a BAYFLEX partial

BAYFLEX can be prescribed and delivered in two appointments:

  • Appointment 1: scan or impression. Capture upper and lower arches with a bite registration, using a digital scan or a traditional impression.
  • Appointment 2: seat. Deliver and seat the BAYFLEX partial.

On the prescription, include the BAYFLEX option you want, the teeth to replace, the tooth shade, and the tissue shade. BAYFLEX is available in five gingival tissue shades: Crystal, Light Pink, Pink, Medium Meharry, and Dark Meharry. Prosthetic teeth and flexible clasps can be added in a wide range of shades to match each patient.

Adjusting and servicing BAYFLEX over time

Flexible partials use different adjustment techniques than acrylic or cast metal, so it helps to have the right tools and steps at chairside. Bayshore provides a BAYFLEX adjustment guide that walks through chairside adjustments and polishing. When the case needs more than a chairside adjustment, send it back to the lab. BAYFLEX supports:

  • Adding prosthetic teeth after an extraction
  • Adding or modifying flexible clasps
  • Repairing damaged areas
  • Rebasing to accommodate tissue changes

Because these services happen in the lab, a lost tooth or a change in the ridge does not have to mean a full remake.

Choosing between BAYFLEX and a cast metal partial

BAYFLEX covers most esthetic and comfort-driven cases, and BAYFLEX Hybrid extends it to cases that need a metal framework for support. For long span cases where maximum rigidity is the top priority, a conventional cast metal partial is still a valid choice. For a side-by-side comparison, see our guide to flexible vs. metal partial dentures, and if you are evaluating labs, read how to choose a flexible partial denture lab.

Send your next BAYFLEX case

Bayshore Dental Studio has been a full-service dental laboratory since 1992. You can start a BAYFLEX case from a scan with the IntelliScan 3D or any open intraoral scanner through Send a Digital Case, or from a traditional impression through Send a Conventional Case. Learn more about the full system on the BAYFLEX flexible partial dentures page, or send your next BAYFLEX case to Bayshore.

  • What are the BAYFLEX partial options?

BAYFLEX comes in four options: BAYFLEX Basic for most partially edentulous cases, BAYFLEX Hybrid with a metal framework for patients missing all posterior teeth, BAYFLEX Single Tooth for interim and implant healing cases, and BAYFLEX Clearframe, a clear, metal free frame for cases where minimizing visibility is the priority.

  • How many appointments does a BAYFLEX partial take?

Two. The first appointment is a digital scan or traditional impression of both arches with a bite registration, and the second is delivery and seating of the BAYFLEX partial.

  • Can BAYFLEX partials be relined or added to?

Yes. Every BAYFLEX partial can be rebased, repaired, and have prosthetic teeth or flexible clasps added in the Bayshore Dental Studio lab, so tissue changes or a lost tooth do not require a full remake.
